How sales tax works in Saskatchewan
Saskatchewan charges the 5% federal GST plus its own 6% provincial sales tax (PST), for 11% combined on most purchases.
Both taxes are calculated on the price before tax: $100 + $5 GST + $6 PST = $111.
The PST rate rose from 5% to 6% on March 23, 2017.
How to calculate GST and PST in Saskatchewan
- Step 1
Add GST and PST to a price
Multiply the price before tax by 1.11. For example, $100 × 1.11 = $111.00.
- Step 2
Find the tax on a price
Multiply the price before tax by 0.11. For example, $100 × 0.11 = $11.00.
- Step 3
Remove GST and PST from a total
Divide the tax-included total by 1.11. For example, $111.00 ÷ 1.11 = $100.00 before tax.
